Minecraft Dungeons II is the 2026 action-RPG sequel from Mojang Studios and Double Eleven, published by Xbox Game Studios. It launched on 29 September 2026 as a standalone dungeon crawler: you do not need to finish the first Minecraft Dungeons. Heroes step through rifts that open across the Overworld and fight in the Sift, an uncharted dimension of souls, threats, and new biomes. Combat loadouts now use twelve slots, parties go up to four players, and the old camp mission table is gone. This wiki maps the launch systems players actually use: entering the Sift, travelling the interconnected Overworld, building a 12-slot loadout, and starting couch, online, or mixed co-op.
What launched on 29 September 2026
The Steam, Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo storefronts all list Minecraft Dungeons II as released on 29 September 2026. Mojang and Double Eleven built it as a new action RPG rather than a mission pack: the sequel keeps isometric dungeon crawling, then adds jumping, a personal enchantment library, talismans, and an Overworld you walk instead of picking from a camp table.
Xbox Game Studios publishes the title. Steam sells the Windows build at $29.99 for the standard package and $49.99 for Deluxe Edition. Xbox.com lists the Standard Edition with Game Pass on Xbox Series X|S and Windows. Official FAQ copy names PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2 beside those PC and Xbox options.
You can play solo. You can also fill a party of four through couch co-op, online cross-play, mixed co-op, matchmaking, or party codes. Steam marks Cross-Platform Multiplayer on the product page, which matches the FAQ’s cross-play wording.
Steam still lists Single-player, Online Co-op, Shared/Split Screen Co-op, Steam Achievements, and Family Sharing on app 1912410. ESRB rates the title E10+ for Fantasy Violence with in-game purchases. Those store flags sit next to the 29 September 2026 release date, so a new player can confirm the sequel is out, co-op capable, and sold as a full product rather than a mission pack.

Illagers, rifts, and the Sift
Store copy frames the plot in one job: an illager scheme is corrupting the Overworld, and the party has to stop it or lose the surface world. The new space for that fight is the Sift, described as the first new Minecraft dimension in more than fourteen years. Rifts open across the Overworld; stepping through one drops the party into that uncharted layer.
Named Sift ground includes the Meadow and the Carapace. A gameplay article sends a quest after the Twisted Warden, a slow, heavy Deep Dark boss shown in the Minecraft LIVE peek. Those names are the launch atlas, not a full bestiary: use them to aim a run, then read the Sift guide for the dimension facts.
Reviews treated the realm as the sequel’s distinctive piece. IGN called the campaign short and the Sift the standout space. PCGamesN scored Minecraft Dungeons 2 8/10 at launch. Neither review replaces the official system pages; they only confirm that players are judging the new dimension and the shorter campaign together.
Twelve slots and a four-hero party
Combat slots expanded from six to twelve. Armor is no longer one item: helmet, chestplate, leggings, and boots each take a slot. The inventory screenshot also shows three artifact slots and three talisman slots. Projectile weapons now use unlimited ammunition that recharges on its own, so bows and similar tools no longer stop a fight to hunt arrows.
Enchantment books go into a personal library. You apply them at an enchantsmith to any gear slot, then upgrade those enchantments over time. Jumping sits beside dodge rolling and can add momentum to attacks, including jump attacks used for parkour lines.
Co-op is no longer only a couch drop-in. Mixed co-op lets two or more players on one console or PC fight with extra online teammates. Matchmaking and party codes are new ways to form that group. Start on the co-op page if you need the four mode rows in one stack.
The official inventory screenshot is the picture of that twelve-slot claim: two weapons, four armor pieces, three artifacts, and three talismans. Twisted Tooth is the named talisman at level 1 with a 40% souls-gained bonus. Jump attacks are tracked by the public Steam row Y-Axis Unlocked, which asks for 1000 jump-attack kills, so the new jump is a damage tool as well as a traversal tool.
Official gameplay trailer
Minecraft posted the official gameplay trailer on YouTube. It is the official look at rifts, the Sift, and four-player combat before you buy. The facade below loads the player only after you ask for it, so the page does not pull YouTube scripts on first paint.
A separate reveal trailer covers the Sift announcement, and the Minecraft LIVE May 2026 peek shows Deep Dark ground the series had not used before. Those videos live on the Sift and Overworld pages so this homepage keeps one official gameplay embed.
The official gameplay trailer is the Minecraft YouTube video at watch id vBNE3bKMpu8. A reveal trailer and a Minecraft LIVE May 2026 peek exist on the same channel and are linked from The Sift and Overworld so this homepage only mounts one player. The facade keeps YouTube scripts off first paint until you choose View trailer. After it plays, open The Sift for rift facts or Co-op for the four-player rules the reel is selling.
From fall window to Deluxe DLC
Steam announced Minecraft Dungeons II on 21 March 2026 for a fall 2026 window. The Brave the Unknown post on 7 June locked 29 September 2026. The Enter the Sift trailer landed on 20 August, Hero Cape details on 27 August, and the game launched on 29 September.
Deluxe Edition adds four hero skins, the Soul cape, the Blub pet, and two later DLC packs. Steam lists DLC 1 for October–December 2026 and DLC 2 for January–March 2027. Those packs are upcoming: they are sold as Deluxe contents, not as live dates with a day number.
The Hero Cape is a separate launch promo. Play Minecraft Dungeons, then log into Minecraft Dungeons II on the same Microsoft account before 31 December 2026. Game Pass play counts. You do not have to own either game if you join a friend’s co-op session on that account.
Between the 21 March announcement and the 29 September launch, Steam also shipped the Brave the Unknown date lock on 7 June, the Enter the Sift trailer on 20 August, and Hero Cape details on 27 August. Deluxe DLC 1 occupies October–December 2026 and DLC 2 occupies January–March 2027, both sold with Deluxe Edition and the $19.99 Deluxe Upgrade rather than as day-one patches.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need the first Minecraft Dungeons to play the sequel?
No. Official FAQ copy says players do not need to finish the first Minecraft Dungeons. The sequel is a standalone action RPG. The Hero Cape promo is the only launch reward that asks you to play the first game, and even that cape can unlock from a friend’s co-op session on the same Microsoft account.
Is Minecraft Dungeons II on Game Pass?
Xbox.com lists the Standard Edition as included with Game Pass on Xbox Series X|S and Windows. The Hero Cape FAQ also says Game Pass play qualifies for that cape. Deluxe extras such as the Soul cape and Blub pet still sit on the Deluxe SKU or the $19.99 Deluxe Upgrade.
What is the Sift?
The Sift is the new dimension reached through rifts that open across the Overworld. Official copy calls it uncharted, with threats, mysteries, and beauty, and names the Meadow, the Carapace, and a quest for the Twisted Warden. Open the Sift guide for those records in one place.
When did Minecraft Dungeons II come out?
